"Okay," said his father. "So, Son, what does the Bible mean?"
Dare 2 Share - A father was approached by his small son, who told him proudly, "I know what the Bible means!"
His father smiled and replied, "What do you mean, you 'know' what the Bible means?"
The son replied, "I do know!"
"Okay," said his father. "So, Son, what does the Bible mean?"
"That's easy, Daddy. It stands for Basic Information Before Leaving Earth."
That story sort of reminds me of something that Jesus said 2000 years ago:
"O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, thank you for hiding the truth from those who think themselves so wise and clever, and for revealing it to the childlike. Yes, Father, it pleased you to do it this way. (Luke 10:21)
If this child could understand the truth about the Bible, why cant we?
Perhaps its because youre like me when it comes to directions. I dont do them. Having to read them makes me feel like a failure to my gender and an embarrassment to those around me.
Now most of the time I can work things out, probably because most of the things we buy are pretty simple to make sense of.
But not life
and that is what we are stuck with until we leave earth. If you think you have life figured out, just stick around for a while.
So if the Bible is Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth, why do most believers ignore the directions?
Pride, laziness, ignorance, apathy, or perhaps just a lack of belief. Then when confusing things happen, we get mad at God and wonder why we cant figure out life.
Heres a thought: read the Book that was written by the Author of life!
Start with Genesis and book your way through. Or read a Psalm/ Proverb that coincides with the date. Or perhaps work your way through the Gospels
it doesnt matter, just as long as you are there!
Let me give you two of the basic instructions to get you started and help you on your way "before leaving earth".
Here is my final conclusion: Fear God and obey his commands, for this is the duty of every person. God will judge us for everything we do, including every secret thing, whether good or bad. (Ecclesiastes 12:13-14)
"Teacher, which is the most important commandment in the law of Moses?"
Jesus replied, " `You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.' This is the first and greatest commandment. A second is equally important: `Love your neighbor as yourself.' All the other commandments and all the demands of the prophets are based on these two commandments."(Matthew 22:36-39)
If you devoted time and effort to simply following these two directives, I guarantee you your life will radically change over time. Now you know what Satan doesn't want you to know- the real "truth" behind the Bible!
Questions:
1) How many minutes a week to I spend reading the directions for life?
2) Which voice is giving me more instructions: Gods or the worlds?
3) What is my biggest hang-up about regularly reading the Bible?
